About

A brief explanation.

Why do I have this website?

For fun!

While social media has become a big part of modern life, I’ve never been particularly drawn to it.

In fact, I actively avoid it.

However, I sometimes feel the need to share personal moments, thoughts, or experiences from my day-to-day life.

This site serves as a space for me to do just that.

It's my personal platform where I can share without the noise of social media while also acting as a kind of personal record that I find useful.

If you don't know me personally then this wont be of any interest or use to you as it's only for a select few people that I have provided access to manually.

Why is this website so ugly?

Great question!

Short answer:
Because it's a personal website unrelated to my professional work. I don't care about how it looks. It's just a vehicle for the content I am providing. The last thing that janitor wants to do at the end of the day is clean for fun.

Slightly longer answer:
At the time of making this website, I don't anticipate anyone but me actually seeing it. If you're reading this, then you are not likely to be me. Maybe a small handful of close friends or family might actually access this website. Once again, if you don't know me personally, then you have taken the wrong cyber-exit.

Long answer:
This website is built on Ghost CMS platform. That is something I have very limited experience with, but I find its simplicity of use a rather nice change of pace from the platform I am usually using called WordPress. Ghost, much like WordPress, is a free and open-source software (F.O.S.S.) that has evolved into a powerful online ecosystem. Since its creation in the mid-2000s, I’ve been an early adopter, recognising its potential to help anyone build a website without any programming knowledge—something I myself had very little of. These days, it's become more mainstream, with usually somewhere around half the internet's websites being built on it (usually give or take 10% depending on where you're getting those juicy stats from).

Anyhoo, with a lot of trial and error, I managed to build a business and sole income around WordPress. This means the last couple of decades have been about a LOT of WordPress, and frankly, I'm a little WordPressed-out by the time of writing this.

With its themes and plugins, WordPress is great for customisations for clients because it has so many themes, builders, and plugins. I still love it and highly recommend it for anyone interested in learning how to make websites.

Although it's lessor known, Ghost CMS does have a slow-growing following. It's not the most flexible F.O.S.S. platform because, although it does provide some free themes, most are paid. Also, if you want to extend or edit its core functionality, usually a little coding/server-side knowledge is required.

In saying all this, when it comes to a small blog/website like mine used for simply sharing or expressing things, I believe Ghost CMS is a great choice. If you (like me) don't care about how the website looks and just want a convenient to use way of making pages/posts with minimal fuss and lighting fast load times, I recommend you give it a try.

I know this sounds like a sales pitch, but – no – I'm not affiliated; I'm just a nerd.

You contradict yourself!

"You say one thing and then you say another... which is it?"

Neither/both. Two opposing opinions can be held at the same time - in fact I consider that healthy. Not everything is a dichotomy. Through exposing yourself to new beliefs, values and habits you can open yourself up to new choices of internal travel and freedom. A lot of what we do and struggle with is a choice or habit, if you are content doing them then good, if you're not then change is a requirement. Focus on what is helpful.

"You've changed man!"

Thank you! I hope so! Otherwise I'm not growing and improving at all and what a truly terrifying concept that is.

I have no answers - I am just seeking the right questions to ask myself.

If you're reading this then I love you.
Thanks for stopping by!
